ALONE calls on Department of Social Protection to increase State Pension in 2021

ALONE, the organisation which supports older people, is calling on the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection to increase the state pension by €7 in Budget 2021, to ensure that older people are protected during difficult economic times. Financial issues are one of the biggest concerns raised with ALONE by the older people who use their services.

Irish Travel Agents Association seek clarity on rules for travel ‘green list’ of countries

The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) is calling for clarity on the ‘green list’ of countries approved for international travel, stating that unless current travel restrictions are lifted, the publication of a green list is futile. The Association believes that the list could cause confusion for both inbound and outbound travellers, unless travel advice relating to the countries on the list changes.

ALONE makes an appeal to safeguard security and supports surrounding housing for older people

ALONE, the organisation which supports older people, has highlighted the growing housing issues prevalent among older people amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to this, older people in short-term accommodation are being asked to relocate, despite the fact that many do not have access to suitable accommodation. Now more than ever, ALONE are appealing for reformation to the supports enabling older people to stay in their homes for as long as possible.

ALONE and TILDA compile report examining loneliness and social isolation in over-70’s

ALONE, the organisation which supports older people, has collaborated with The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) to publish a report examining loneliness and isolation among over-70’s during the COVID-19 pandemic. The report[1], published today by TILDA, focuses on the impact of public health measures such as ‘cocooning’ on the mental and physical health of older people who are struggling with loneliness.

REDEMPTION OF A ROGUE wins two major awards at Galway Film Fleadh

REDEMPTION OF A ROGUE picked up two major awards at the Galway Film Fleadh last night.  The Cavan-set film, which had its sold-out world premiere at the festival on Saturday night, won both the Best Irish Film and Best Irish First Feature awards.  This is the first time since 2013 that a film has won both awards.
