ITAA respond to closure of Heffernan’s Travel

The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) has noted that as of Wednesday, 3rd October 2018, Heffernan’s Travel has ceased trading.

In business for over 90 years, the Cork based travel agent announced the closure on Wednesday afternoon. The ITAA is advising holidaymakers who have booked with Heffernan’s Travel to contact the Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR). As a licensed and bonded agent, customers may be eligible for a refund. Details on how to claim against the bond can be found on the CAR website (www.aviationreg.ie).

Customers are also advised to contact their travel insurance provider and examine the charge back policy of your credit or debit card provider for any protection which might be in place.

Pat Dawson, CEO of the ITAA said, “It is a sad day for the travel industry in Cork as this long established agent closes its doors. We understand that the company will do it’s utmost to honour their client bookings and hope to see staff return to work shortly.”

He continued, “As a bonded travel agent, Heffernan’s Travel customers who booked travel commencing in Ireland may be eligible for a refund under the Commission’s consumer protection scheme. We advise anyone affected to contact CAR and complete a claim form.”

The original statement announcing the change in trade was posted on the Commission for Aviation Regulation on Wednesday afternoon and can be read here – www.aviationreg.ie
