ITAA urge Ryanair and pilots to end industrial disputes
Strike action has been announced for 22nd and 23rd of August
The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) have urged Ryanair and Irish-based pilots to find a resolution as a 48 hour strike has been scheduled for Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd August. The strike will coincide with industrial action by Ryanair pilot strikes in the UK and cabin crew in Portugal.
John Spollen, President of the ITAA, said, “The ITAA has been in contact with the airline and understand that holiday flights to Europe will be prioritised in an effort to limit disruption to passengers. This is a relief to holidaymakers due to return at the end of the month, particularly for families preparing for the beginning of the school year.”
Spollen continued, “Similar to strikes held last year, flights between Ireland and the UK are likely to face the most disruption. We hope that adjustments can be readily made to travel plans and customers receive the support they require.”
“We are disappointed by the breakdown in negotiations and are calling for resolution between pilots and Ryanair to reduce the threat of further action, which is very unsettling for Irish holidaymakers. Anyone booked on a Ryanair flight with an ITAA travel agent should contact their agent who will work to make any necessary arrangements.”
