ALONE cautions members of the public to stay mindful of older people

ALONE, the organisation which supports older people is calling on members of the public to be vigilant of older people who may be feeling particularly vulnerable as children go back to school this week, as we are seeing more activity and movement from families. The organisation welcomes continued updates on the current guidelines for older people from Government, while encouraging a more long-term plan to be identified and mapped out for future expectations.

ALONE and TILDA compile report examining loneliness and social isolation in over-70’s

ALONE, the organisation which supports older people, has collaborated with The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) to publish a report examining loneliness and isolation among over-70’s during the COVID-19 pandemic. The report[1], published today by TILDA, focuses on the impact of public health measures such as ‘cocooning’ on the mental and physical health of older people who are struggling with loneliness.

ALONE, Gavin James and Bonfire team up for the launch of the charity’s ‘Now more than ever’ video campaign

ALONE, the organisation which supports older people, have teamed up with Gavin James and Bonfire Dublin to release their ‘Now more than ever’ campaign, a series of short videos on loneliness featuring Gavin James’s music, which call on members of the public to stay in touch with the older people they know who may be feeling lonely whilst cocooning. ALONE: Cocooning brings to light increasing and ongoing levels of loneliness and isolation among older people

ALONE, the organisation which supports older people, is urging members of the public to reach out to older people in the community who may be feeling particularly isolated at the moment due to cocooning measures in place, which will now continue until May 5. The organisation is asking families to reach out by phone or use technology to stay in touch with their older relatives, neighbours and friends.

ALONE welcomes the introduction of banking supports for older people restricted by cocooning measures

ALONE, the organisation which supports older people, has welcomed measures taken by the Banking and Payments Federation of Ireland (BPFI) to assist older people who are cocooning with banking. The five main retail banks have introduced free phone numbers to offer assistance and advice to older customers required to stay at home amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
