Great Danes win this year’s Busker Fleadh Online

The 2020 Busker Fleadh Online came to a close last night, as the winners were announced in by Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu. The Great Danes, a five-piece brass band known for their upbeat covers of pop songs, won first prize of a day’s recording session in Windmill Lane Recording Studios. Country/folk singer-songwriter Kenan Flannery was runner up, and won a Hudson Guitar from Gandharva Loka and Hudson Guitar Co.

Presented by Dublin City Council and organised by Limelight Communications, the Busker Fleadh was a huge success, showcasing some of the most invigorating busking acts from all over the country. Viewers at home tuned in to see a wide range of talented musicians perform and vote for their favourite. The event featured a diverse line up of bands and solo acts playing both well-known hits and original compositions, and was shown on the Busker Fleadh Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The Fleadh drew votes from all over, as buskers came together to bring their talents online for “live” performances. The Busker Fleadh concluded last night with a live stream performance of all twenty busking acts taking to the virtual stage for an online concert, ahead of the Lord Mayor’s announcement.

As well as fantastic performances from the buskers, viewers had the opportunity to participate in various music workshops and activities, hosted by RockJam Music School. From performance tips to specific instrument workshops, ranging across all age levels, skill levels and music tastes, there was something for the whole family at this year’s Busker Fleadh Online.
